Puregas Solutions provides complete interface list

To produce biomethane through bio- or thermochemical conversion of biomass/waste the carbon dioxide formed during the conversion process has to be removed.

Within LignoSys, upgrading by chemical absorbtion was selected as the preferred option since excess process heat is available for the thermochemical conversion routes.

Puregas Solutions a supplier of biogas upgrading based on amine scrubbing took part in a project meeting in November 2016. As a result of the meeting Puregas Solutions has provided the complete interface list based on the WoodRoll® gasification system.

Visit by university of Leoben

On the 9th of November, Prof. Thomas Kienberger, Head of Chair, Energy Network Technology, Department of Environmental and Energy Process Engineering, Montanuniversität Leoben visited Environmental and Energy Systems Studies at Lund Institute of Technology within the framework of the LignoSys project.

During the meeting, data for the Heatpipe Reformer technology, which is one of the conversion technologies included in LignoSys, was discussed on a detailed level.

Project meeting at Lund University

The integration of an amine scrubber for CO2 removal with the WoodRoll® system was discussed in a meeting on the 14th of October at Lund University.

The WoodRoll® process produces a clean syngas that after methanation consists of roughly 50% methane and 50% carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide has to be removed in order to achieve biomethane of vehicle fuel quality. Nice features of the thermochemical conversion path are the absence of hydogen sulfide since sulphur is removed upstream of the methanation reactor, and that the methanation process provides sufficient heat for regeneration of the scrubber liquid.

LignoSys at EBA conference – Ghent, Belgium

The biennial European Biogas Association conference took place 27-29 September 2016 in Ghent, Belgium.

Jörgen Held gave a presentation on Biomethane production through thermochemical conversion of biomass and waste. The presentation included information about WoodRoll® which is one of the conversion technologies that is studied within LignoSys as well as a link to the LignoSys project.

Since several of the project partners were present at the conference an informal update of the project progress was provided by the project coordinator.

LignoSys in good progress

The LignoSys project is in good progress. Additional parameters such as relevant moisture and ash content of the woody biomass have been selected. Data from Cortus regarding their proprietary WoodRoll® technology has been gathered.

On the 16th of September the coordinator and Prof. Pål Börjesson and Johanna Olofsson, Lund University had a meeting to discuss the data needed for the system studies.

 

LignoSys kick-off meeting

On the 11th of May, just after the REGATEC 2016 conference, the LignoSys kick-off took place.

Edson Ng and Matt Babicki, G4 Insights Inc. Canada participated through Webex.

During the meeting the project structure and targets were presented and parameters of relevance for the system studies were selected, e.g. substrate/feedstock, choice of pretreatment methods, gas cleaning, upgrading and methanation processes.

Study tour – WoodRoll® pilot plant

On the 20th of April a part of the LignoSys consortium visited the 500 kW WoodRoll® pilot plant in Köping, Sweden. The plant was in operation, producing an ultraclean syngas suitable for methanation (or other biofuels) and CHP production. Design data for a 6 MWsyngas WoodRoll® plant was discussed and will serve as input for a part of the system studies within the framework of the LignoSys project.

LignoSys kicks off at REGATEC 2016

3rd International Conference on Renewable Energy Gas Technology, REGATEC 2016 revolves around production of renewable methane through bio-, electro- and thermochemical conversion of renewable resources and the so far unexploited synergies between these conversion routes.

This makes REGATEC 2016 the perfect setting for the LignoSys kick off

Approx. 150-180 people from 25-30 countries are expected, underlining the true international character of the conference.
